Calgary Legal Guidance recognizes that people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness have unique legal needs.
The Homeless Outreach Program (HOP) team gives legal advice and services along with emotional support and social agency referrals through our lawyer and non-lawyer advocate team. This includes representing people who are facing criminal charges or are being evicted.
We can also give free legal answers to questions about:
- Evictions/Landlord-tenant issues
- Criminal charges
- Human Rights
- Abuse/Family Violence
- And more
We provide free legal advice to people who are homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless at these locations:

The Calgary Legal Guidance ID Clinic Program is designed to provide identification to individuals over the age of 18 who have lost, misplaced or had their identification documents stolen. The ID Clinic provides individuals with a wallet-sized statutory declaration that can assist in accessing services that require ID. The ID is generated on-site, so the client receives the ID immediately, with no supporting documents required and at no cost, with a processing time of minutes.
This is a legal document notarized by a lawyer, but not government ID. Although no service or agency is required to, many places will accept notarized documents. CLG’s photo ID can typically be used to:
- Access the City of Calgary’s Fair Entry Program
- Get an Alberta Health Care Card *
- Obtain government ID*
- Get a Birth Certificate *
- File taxes
- Apply for a job or residence
*Additional documentation will also be required
For more information on the photo ID and how it can be used, please contact the Homeless Outreach Program Advocate @ 403-716-6498
