{"id":5008,"date":"2021-07-19T16:10:31","date_gmt":"2021-07-19T16:10:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/clg.ab.ca\/?p=5008"},"modified":"2025-10-09T23:14:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T23:14:16","slug":"clg-awarded-community-justice-award-for-leadership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/clg.ab.ca\/index.php\/2021\/07\/19\/clg-awarded-community-justice-award-for-leadership\/","title":{"rendered":"CLG Awarded Community Justice Award for Leadership"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"5008\" class=\"elementor elementor-5008\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-6824565e elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"6824565e\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-3a1e9e72\" data-id=\"3a1e9e72\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-699162e1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"699162e1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Calgary, Alberta (July 19, 2021)<\/strong> \u2013 Calgary Legal Guidance (CLG) is pleased to have been awarded the <strong>Alberta Government Solicitor General<\/strong> <strong>Community Crime Prevention Award 2021 for their Domestic Violence Family Law Program<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCalgary Legal Guidance has been an innovator in the area of trauma-informed Family Law services for those fleeing intimate partner abuse,\u201d says Marina Giacomin, Executive Director of CLG. \u201cThe pandemic shed more light on the prevalence and seriousness of domestic violence in our province, and the Domestic Violence Family Law Program worked tirelessly to find ways to support those in dangerous situations, and who could not leave.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Educating and guiding victims of domestic violence in the areas of law is the primary goal of the DVFL program.\u00a0 Helping women understand their legal rights and assisting in directing them to the community agencies who provide support, are just a few of the wholistic approaches that CLG provides.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Domestic Violence Family Law Program provides legal guidance services <em>pro bono<\/em> with a team headed by local family lawyer Sheila Pahl, to assist women in their plight.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alberta\u2019s premier <em>pro bono<\/em> organization, CLG provides free legal guidance to low-income Calgarians, victims of domestic violence, and Black, Indigenous and other marginalized people.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Alberta Community Justice Awards recognizes individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to preventing crime in our communities.
