The Legal Advice for Survivors of Sexual Assault Program supports survivors of sexual assault with their interactions with legal systems. Anyone who has experienced sexual assault or sexual harassment may be eligible for independent legal advice, support, and referrals. We welcome survivors at any stage in their journey through legal systems.
The program can help by:
Explaining your rights as a victim
Explaining the process of reporting your assault to the police or other authorities
Explaining the criminal law process and your role as a complainant
Advising you on appearing as a witness at a criminal trial
Advising you on legal avenues, such as a civil claim or human rights claim, relating to your assault
Providing non-judgemental support to help you decide how you want to proceed
Connecting you with other supports in the community to help you address your social, psychological, and emotional needs relating to your assault
