Child Welfare 101

So, you have your first Child and Family Services (Child Welfare) Court Application. These applications can seem daunting and scary! The lunch hour sessions will help you learn how to best represent your clients. We will discuss providing your clients with reasonable advice and direction as to how they can help themselves (and you too!) on these matters. You will learn what the various Court Applications are pursuant to the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act and what they actually mean. Advice will be shared on obtaining disclosure documentation and how best to review it and organize it (it has be voluminous!). We will work our way through the process, starting at your very first Court appearance all the way up to the Trial. We shall have discussions about how to best prepare yourself and your client for the road ahead. We will chat about organizing your witnesses and yourself for the Trial. The road may not be paved with gold but it does not need to be rocky!
