Calgary Legal Guidance

Calgary, Alberta (July 19, 2021) – Calgary Legal Guidance (CLG) is pleased to have been awarded the Alberta Government Solicitor General Community Crime Prevention Award 2021 for their Domestic Violence Family Law Program.

“Calgary Legal Guidance has been an innovator in the area of trauma-informed Family Law services for those fleeing intimate partner abuse,” says Marina Giacomin, Executive Director of CLG. “The pandemic shed more light on the prevalence and seriousness of domestic violence in our province, and the Domestic Violence Family Law Program worked tirelessly to find ways to support those in dangerous situations, and who could not leave.”

Educating and guiding victims of domestic violence in the areas of law is the primary goal of the DVFL program.  Helping women understand their legal rights and assisting in directing them to the community agencies who provide support, are just a few of the wholistic approaches that CLG provides.

The Domestic Violence Family Law Program provides legal guidance services pro bono with a team headed by local family lawyer Sheila Pahl, to assist women in their plight.

Alberta’s premier pro bono organization, CLG provides free legal guidance to low-income Calgarians, victims of domestic violence, and Black, Indigenous and other marginalized people.

The Alberta Community Justice Awards recognizes individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to preventing crime in our communities. The recipients have shown exceptional leadership, innovation and dedication to working and volunteering in community justice.
