Social Benefits Advocacy Program

The Social Benefits Advocacy Program (SBAP) offers information, advice and guidance in dealing with the following social benefit programs:

  • Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) Program
  • Alberta Disability Assistance Program (ADAP)
  • Income Support (Alberta Works)

By providing you with information about your rights and next steps, our Social Benefits Advocacy Program can assist clients with:

  • Keeping existing benefits
  • Increasing the benefit amount
  • Appealing a benefit denial decision or change in benefits
  • Obtaining medical documentation
  • Preparing for an appeal hearing
  • Understanding benefit legislation, regulation and policies
  • Connecting with community supports

We can also help you by:

  • Explaining how to apply for AISH benefits or how to appeal a decision
  • Providing guidance for representing yourself at an AISH appeal
  • Connecting you to other community support organizations that can help

You may be eligible, if you:

  • Have low income and meet our financial guidelines
  • You cannot afford a lawyer
  • You do not qualify for support from Legal Aid Alberta
