Indigenous Program Lawyer

The Sahwoo Mohkaak Tsi Ma Taas: Before Being Judged program is designed to increase and enhance access to justice and healing for Indigenous peoples, living in or around Calgary. The Lawyer is an integral part of the Indigenous Access to Justice Program team in a legal / client service capacity with a specific focus on engaging and serving Indigenous peoples in the city of Calgary who are experiencing homelessness, poverty, or other barriers to justice. The program is a unique, holistic response to Calls to Action, Justice 25-42 (Canada’s Truth & Reconciliation Commission Final Report).

This is a permanent, full time position at 35 hours per week. Reporting to the Senior Counsel- Litigation Services / HOP Lawyer, and working closely with the Indigenous Liaison, Indigenous Articling Students and all CLG staff lawyers, the Lawyer is in a unique position to provide legal services to Indigenous people in a de-colonized, historically-informed, culturally-sensitive manner. The Lawyer is the primary lawyer for all Indigenous clients requiring brief services or follow up from outreach clinics, while overseeing and attending all Indigenous outreach clinics. The Lawyer directs the client work of the CLG Indigenous Liaison and provides guidance and legal oversight to the Sahwoo Mohkaak Tsi Ma Taas (Before Being Judged) Program.

Receptionist

This permanent full time position is the first point of contact for the organization and will perform administrative tasks that support the Intake process, data entry, and contribute to client hospitality and the streamlining of office operations. As the first point of contact, this position will interact with clients, intake officers, lawyers, law students, advocates, legal assistants and various external organizations and must maintain positive contact with the general public.

Director of Impact and Evaluation

This is a senior management position reporting directly to the Executive Director and is a member of the Leadership Team. This position’s primary responsibility is to ensure organizational effectiveness by leading the organization’s data collection, evaluation of outcomes/impact, development of evaluation frameworks, and reporting same to funders and other stakeholders. The position additionally assists with the development of proposals for grants and funding opportunities. This position works closely with Senior Managing Counsels to ensure that evaluation data is collected in a consistent, rigorous, streamlined, and accurate manner. The Director will work in collaboration with the Executive Director, Director of HR & Operations, Finance Director, Senior Managing Counsels, Volunteer Manager and Clinic & Intake Manager and contribute to the short and long-term organizational planning and strategies as a member of the Leadership Team.
