Be It Resolved: Debate Series

November 3, 2014 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

CLG and the Calgary Public Library are excited to announce another event in our debate series on Monday, November 3.

Our topic for this debate – Should there be limitations to the freedom of speech Canadians enjoy?

What is the legislation that limits our rights to free speech in Canada? Revelations of CSIS monitoring our cell phones and new proposed legislation related to deal with terrorism highlight the need to understand this legal and ethical issue.

Our debaters are Peter McCaffrey, Research Fellow at the Manning Foundation for Democratic Education arguing for little or no limitations, and Nathalie Tremblay, Leader-Public Legal Education and Information Resolution Services  at Alberta Justice & Solicitor General, arguing that there should be limitations.

Join us at the John Dutton Theatre at the Central Library from 7-9pm. The debate is followed by a social gathering where you will get a chance to talk to the debaters and share some light snacks and beverages.
